  • What Should I Bring?

    • Fishing license with salmon tag

    • Lunch, drinks

    • Coolers for your fish

    • Sunglasses

    • Rain gear, rubber boots

    • Warm clothes

    • Medications you might need on the boat.

      Please let Rob know if you are allergic to anything or if you have serious health concerns that could impact your safety while fishing offshore. Food is not included, there are restaurants and a small grocery store in Bamfield.

  • What happens to your fish when we return to the dock?

    • Rob cleans and filets your fish at the end of each day according to the Fisheries and Oceans legal guidelines.

    • Fish bags are provided and ice can be purchased.

    • Fish processing is available at St Jeans fish market in Port Alberni or Nanaimo,

      Please have patience when getting fish processed with St Jean’s as they are very busy.

  • The Boat: MV Finaddic

    • The Finaddic is a 30’ Proline.

    • 10’8 beam with twin 300 hp outboards.

    • 6 person Coast Guard approved life raft.

    • Chart Plotter, 2 vhf radios, 2 Depth sounders, Radar, Epirb.

    • All Coast Guard required safety gear.

    • If you get tired or sleepy there is a big v berth bunk where you can rest

    • Washroom with running water.

      The MV Finaddic is roomy, fast, comfortable and equipped with top of the line fishing gear. Stereo with Sirius radio so you can listen to your favorite music while reeling in the big one.

  • What does a day of fishing look like ?

    • We depart at first light and fish for about 8 hours.

    • Depending on what species we are targeting will determine how long of a boat ride.

    • We fish in protected and offshore waters around Bamfield and Barkley Sound.

    • When targeting halibut, salmon and cod its a good idea to book a day for each species .

  • What kind of wildlife could we see ?

    There is a abundance of wildlife on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

    We could have encounters with:

    • Orcas

    • Humpback whales

    • Gray whales

    • Minke whales

    • Porpoises

    • Sealions

    • Harbor seals

    • Bald eagles

    • Sea otters

    • Blue sharks and much more.

  • What are the limits of fish ?

    Fisheries and Oceans frequently change the size and possession limits.

    • Halibut is 2 per person 90 cm or smaller or 1 halibut 91 cm to 126 cm.

    • Chinook salmon daily limit is 2 and possession limit is 4.

    • Tuna 20 per day 40 possession.

      These limits are subject to change anytime .

  • Driving to Bamfield

    • Its approximately 3.5 hours drive from Nanaimo.

    • The road from Port Alberni to Bamfield is gravel.

    • They are currently doing work now to pave the road so expect delays and detours.

    • Make sure you have a spare, jack and proper tools to change a tire if need be .
